February 14th
According to Puppy Up Foundation
Today we are recognizing National Pet Theft Awareness Day. National Pet Theft Awareness was established in 1988 by the Last Chance For Animals organization. In light of February being National Responsible Pet Owners Month, today we encourage pet owners to take the necessary precautions to protect their pets from theft. Here are some tips on how to protect your pet from theft:
- Tags.
- Make sure your pet has an ID tag, collar, and a license. Your veterinarian may also suggest microchipping your pet.
- Supervision.
- You should never leave your pet unsupervised. Never let your pet roam freely outside of the house. Make sure to always have a leash on your pet outside of your home.
- Keep up to date pictures of your pet.
-
- If there is ever an occasion that your pet is lost, it is always good to have current pictures of your pet to put on posters and social media. If your pet goes missing, please contact your local police station and animal control center.
